Spreading the word

I had a day off last week to squire my brother and sister-in-law around Southwark, as they have flown in from the States. The first thing we did was make a beeline to Neal’s Yard Dairy on Park Street, weaving our way through Borough Market. I am gratified to see that every time I take this route, there are more cheese makers and artisanal dairy types plying their trades in this key attraction under the arches. So, we got into the shop and enjoyed tasting cheeses (and then buying them, of course) with a server from… Boston, US. Which is where I think Randolph’s drive to spread the word of British cheeses is working so well.

Brian (it may not be his real name, but I have unfortunately forgotten his name) explained that he was over for two weeks to learn more about the British cheeses he exports to the US. It is such a great idea. Brian will go back home and deliver knowledgeable advice to his customers at his shop, and the result will be more British cheese sold. He will tell them about George Keen and his band of organic cows, or where the Cornish Yarg name comes from, and Americans will pay $20 plus per pound for the imported cheese. Perfect. It is a win-win situation.

The cheeses didn’t last the weekend. It was a happy outing.
