Züger Frischkäse expands

Swiss cheese maker Züger Frischkäse has seen sales grow by double digits compared to the same period last year. Some of the money is now bring used on the construction of an automatic packaging storeroom at the production site Oberbüren.

The plan was to start construction this summer. Then came the drama in January, when the Swiss National Bank raised the minimum exchange rate of CHF 1.20 per euro. But despite the difficult economic environment, the management of Züger has decided to go ahead with the CHF 5.5 million (€5m) intended expansion.

The extension for the fully automatic packaging storeroom is attached to the existing structure. The new building with a height of 12 meters will be adjusted to the given height of the production building of 24 meters. The new warehouse with four goods lifts will eventually have room for 3,000 Euro pallets. According to the management, the chosen compact design of the building project meets the terms of the economical use of land reserves.

The expansion of storage capacity is needed for the fresh produce. Markus Züger, CEO deputy at Züger Frischkäse, expects the walls to be up before the onset of winter.

The technical commissioning is scheduled for the coming spring. The Swiss cheese dairy wants to be ready in time for the 2016 mozzarella season in order to meet the steadily increasing demand.
