Peace, love and death metal

There is an old curse that says, “May you live in interesting times.” I think the events of the last week alone are interesting enough to last me for a long time – Paris and Mali, not to mention Belgium.

I thought the events at the Eagles of Death Metal concert were particularly horrifying, as my better half and I tend to go out to gigs a lot. And, we went to one in London the very next night. So, we went to the Nell Bryden concert. But we checked the exits and then we sang along to her song about when the Twin Towers fell in 2001. It was a good night.

This seems to be the world we live in. The face of terrorism seems to be constantly evolving, and Al Qaeda is now passé while ISIS is the new terror of the week. In the US, it might be a looser collective of disgruntled people, but the bullets still kill you as much as one from a terrorist, I think.

As one friend in the police says, just be aware when you go out. Keep your wits about you. Should you stop going out and seeing people and things? I would say no, you have to live your life, but I understand people not wanting to. Lately, the urge to sit at home, watch Lewis, drink hot chocolate and eat ginger nuts is very strong. But we can do that, and also go out and socialize. We are people, we need to mingle. This is what society is about.

So, FI Europe is in Paris next week. We will visit the show, eat innovative ingredients, go to a nice restaurant and check the exits. Hope to see you all there and maybe share a ginger nut or two. Peace, love and death metal, Paris.
