Italy, Netherlands and UK tops for cheese PSA

Italy, the Netherlands and the UK are now top of the list for reallocated cheese Private Storage Aid (PSA) allowances, according to the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board. Unused volume allowances for cheese PSA have been shared out between EU member states, with the UK receiving an additional 8,669 tonnes. This is the third largest portion of the 68,123 tonnes that was re-allocated. The largest volumes went to Italy (27,025 tonnes) and the Netherlands (16,526 tonnes), according to the AHDB. The reallocations have been split between member states that notified the European Commission they would like to make further use of PSA for cheese. The new volumes are based on the quantities each nation had applied to use before the scheme’s initial deadline of 15 January.

The cheese scheme has also been extended until 30 September 2016, in-line with extensions for butter and skimmed milk powder.
