Expansion for Berglandmilch

Berglandmilch in Aschbach Markt is the largest dairy in Austria and has been extended by a new logistics centre. The new high-bay warehouse has 20,700 fully automated pallet spaces, making a total of 28,000 at the Aschbach site.

“We are going to start up the new warehouse in November,” explains Berglandmilch managing director Josef Braunshofer:”In the future we will no longer need outsiders and the transport routes to the customer will be shorter, because logistics is centralised. This means, we are also faster out to the customer and will increase delivery reliability.”

About €20 million was invested in the logistics centre, which is 46 metres high, 63m long and 32m wide and offers 15,200 uncooled and 5,500 cooled pallet spaces.

Around 250 pallets per hour can be taken out of production, including 190 pallets of fresh milk and 60 pallets of UHT milk. Up to 320 pallets can be stored per hour.

Picking is carried out by means of 29 pallets lanes (two pallets each) and 492 pallets spaces, and the assembly with 29 pallets lanes (three pallets each).

On the approximately 80,000 square meters of operational area of the Berglandmilch factory in Aschbach more than one million litres of raw milk are processed daily into dairy products such as fresh milk, milk, yogurt, butter and fresh cheese.

Berglandmilch processes around 40% of Austrian raw milk.
