And a spoon shall lead them

It’s often the little things in life that irk a person. One personal bugbear of mine is being addressed by Rachel’s, which has added spoons to its on-the-go breakfast yogurt pots in the UK. I applaud this measure as so often, you’re out and about, and to have to remember to grab the spoon from the pile in the supermarket after the checkout and while you’re galloping towards a train, while not spilling your coffee as well. It’s all too much to think about in the morning. So a spoon included in the package is a problem solved. One less thing to deal with in this very busy world.

Another thing I have noticed while out and about is the use of automation in McDonald’s. What a handy thing, to be able to tap your drink order onto the screen, pay for it and then collect it. It seems to streamline what can be an onerous ordering process at the local fast food restaurant, as customers do all their dithering in front of a screen, away from the counter. Not do their dithering at the front of a queue, where their fellow customers silently wish they would just pick a size and get on with it. I am sure it is a relief for everyone involved, and we can get our coffees and a milkshake for the child without too much trouble.

However, speaking about all this, today I heard that the UK has the worst traffic congestion in western Europe, and that a good portion of our lives is now spent sitting in traffic around major cities like London, Belfast and Edinburgh. So, perhaps we should all just take a breather and spend some more time at the rest stops, or sitting at our local food emporium. It is not like we’re going anywhere fast after all.
