Omira develops ProSweets roadshow

German dairy Omira has introduced its latest development in milk powder, Pro Sweets. Omira has been producing the MinusL brand of lactose-free products for more than 15 years. Joachim Dietrich, division manager for quality management and development at the dairy, is now travelling and presenting the Pro Sweets lactose-free skimmed milk and whole milk powder and its benefits (see photo).

In the lectures the spectators are told that the production process used by Omira, unlike other processes, does not alter the natural composition of the milk. Only the lactose is cleaved onto glucose and galactose by means of the enzyme lactase and so made tolerable by the lactose intolerant consumer. This also has the advantage that in some application formulations sugar use can be reduced.

The use of lactose-free milk powder in the food industry is benefiting people who have previously had to forego the consumption of various treats. In Germany it is estimated that 15 to 20% of people are lactose intolerant.
