Hochwald to build new plant

The Hochwald Group is planning a new production site for long-life dairy products in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. A comprehensive analysis of the production network, the milk collection area and the sales channels has shown that the optimal location of the new plant, which in the future will have more than 250 employees and process around 800 million litres of milk into dairy products, will be located in the industrial zone III of the city of Mechernich in Obergartzem.

The negotiations between the company and the city have led to a successful conclusion, according to deputy city council director Thomas Hambach. Raw milk processed in the new plant will come from around 1,250 farmers in the area around the new plant.

“The location offers good conditions for our project. We want to build a modern and highly efficient location on the green field,” says Detlef Latka, chief operating officer of Hochwald Foods.

The construction of a new dairy is part of a long-term goal for the company, Hochwald 2020, which plans to have the company develop into an international, market-oriented milk specialist.

“We plan to commission the plant in Obergartzem about two and a half years after the start of construction,” CEO Thorsten Oberschmidt.
