New Compact Multi-Purpose Label Printer launched by Sato
A new compact label printer, the CG4, designed for food sector barcode label applications, has been launched in the UK by SATO. This latest machine in the company’s CG series offers top-end performance at affordable prices.
Ideal for on-demand low to mid-range volumes, it can be used to print labels up to four inches wide for a range of food industry uses, from packaging to distribution. It is also a useful addition to any general office and has been designed to be easy to operate and maintain by staff at all skill levels, even if they have never used this type of equipment before.
The CG4 can be used for shelf-edge, product and mark-down labelling, shipping and compliance labelling, product identification labels and tags, item tracking and a host of other everyday labelling and identification needs. Because it is compact and can be run without a PC, using SATO’s standalone keypad option, this new model can be sited almost anywhere. It is especially useful where hygiene is important, such as in a food handling as, like many in the SATO printer range, it features an anti-microbial casing.
In addition to printing 4-inch (105mm) labels, the CG4 comes in a choice of 203 or 305 dpi (dots per inch) and thermal transfer/direct thermal versions. It incorporates the latest in on-board linear and 2D barcode symbologies, including GS1 Databar, which enables more information than ever before to be incorporated into a smaller barcode.

Recovering waste heat from compressed air systems
Compressed air specialist ABAC UK has developed a new system which can be used to recover the waste heat generated by compressed air systems. Called Alup Energy Box, it converts the heat generated by most air compressors into hot water up to 70ºC for industrial processes, as well as domestic applications such as hot water for washrooms, replacing the energy normally
used to fuel boilers or heaters.
Energy Box provides a convenient, easy to install packaged system that can be fitted to any make of oil injected rotary screw compressor up to 90 kW.
The system, which recovers energy from the oil circuit on the compressor via a heat exchanger, can be installed quickly and at a lower cost compared to previously available systems. This allows a return on investment (ROI) to be achieved very quickly, and provides a unique opportunity to recover normally wasted energy from air compressors, regardless of age or make.
The amount of energy it is possible to recover using Energy Box can be significant in reducing energy bills and improving efficiency. Energy Box is available in several sizes to suit any make of oil injected screw compressor from 11 to 90 kW, and operating with larger compressors or for longer periods can result in greater energy savings.
