India’s largest dairy plant opens

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), makers of the Amul brand in India, has started operations at the country’s biggest dairy plant in Dharuhera in Haryana, India, according to the Decca Chronicle website. This dairy is expected to cater for Haryana residents as welll as Delhi and the national capital region around it, which is the world’s second largest urban aggregation by population. The dairy will largely be procuring milk from Gujarat and Haryana besides the states of Rajasthan, Punjab and West Bengal The chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda predicts that by 2020, India will produce 180 million litres per day, up from its current rate of 22 million litre of milk.
