Organic dairy sector continues to boom

The introduction of organic dairy products by the likes of Bavarian creamery Berchtesgadener Land has seen turnover for such goods increase by 18% in 1999 and 31% in 2000.
Conventional items, such as 3.7% fat pasteurised milk, natural yogurt and quark, have been complemented over the years by fruit yogurts, sour and double creams, sour cream butter, buttermilk and low fat drinking milk.
Berchtesgadener Land was the first organic milk processor in Bavaria and the first in Germany to introduce long life organic milk. This is steam-heated in a process which, says the dairy, avoids the typical UHT taste. Organic milk consumers seem to agree
