Merging of cheese type and brand

The consumer perception of cheese brand and type is becoming less sharply defined in Germany according to a recent survey with Bresso and BabyBel high up on the preferences when consumers were asked for their favourite cheese types.

While one of the continent’s favourite slicing cheeses, Leerdammer (Fromageries Bel), won 30% of first mentions followed by Gouda (24%), Philadelphia cream cheese (Kraft Foods) brand came next with 19%. The highest level of recognition in supported questions was easily achieved by Leerdammer but here brand names took over immediately afterwards with cream cheese/cheese spread brands Philadelphia, Exquisa (Huber, Karwendel) and Bresso (Edelweiss/Bongrain) all scoring over 80% recognition levels and BabyBel close behind with 76%.
