The European Dairy Association (EDA) has elected Michel Nalet of Lactalis as its new president. Nalet succeeds Werner Buck who was in the post for four years previously. Nalet is general manager communications and external relations at Lactalis. Of his impending two-year term, he notes, “The coming years are crucial to the European dairy industry. As a sector we need to prepare concretely for the abolition of the milk quota in 2015, while looking at the impact of the Milk Package implementation in various European countries. The CAP towards 2020 is another major development deserving our close attention. EDA’s main objective in this debate is that policymakers should not move away from the single market approach.”

Finally, he says, “EDA needs to put more emphasis on its importance for Europe; the dairy industry represents after all almost 15% of the turnover of the total food and drink industry and employs about 40,000 people.”
