Mifroma adds Bergsenn to group
The Swiss Mifroma group which includes six leading dairies with a total turnover last year equivalent to around €858 m, has taken over Swiss cheesemaker Bergsenn, already a major producer in its own right of regional specialties from the Bündner and Engadine areas around St Moritz. Traditional Bergsenn wares include Bündner Bergkäse and the Heidi-Alpen brand as well as 25 other Alpine cheese specialities. Owner of the Mifroma Group is the country’s leading supermarket chain, Migros. With its new purchase Migros takes over one of the fastest-growing individual cheese making organisations in the country with over 10 million kg of milk processed each year. Back in 2005 Bergsenn only exported around 20 tonnes of its cheeses. Just five years later (the latest available figures) exports totalled over 330 tonnes.
