New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra, has opted for Tetra Pak processing and packaging equipment for its NZ$100 million UHT greenfield plant in Waitoa, New Zealand. The new plant will contain five new UHT lines that will produce a range of products including UHT white milk and UHT cream for the foodservice sector, and double Fonterra’s UHT production capacity. It is planned to start producing its first milk by the middle of 2014, with products from the new plant exported across the region.

Nils Björkman, executive vice president commercial operations for Tetra Pak, says: “Rising incomes across Asia mean that more and more families want milk in their daily diets. And high quality, nutritious milk from New Zealand is much sought after in countries across the region. We have worked with Fonterra on long life milk for more than 30 years at Takanini.”
