Cheese merger at DMK

The merger between Germany’s largest dairy group Deutches Milchkontor (DMK) and Dutch cheese maker DOC Kaas is underway.
If the authorities give the green light, the merger will be a reality on 1 January 2016.
Josef Schwaiger, CEO of the DMK Group, is satisfied by the positive result: “The confidence of the DOC-farmers to our planned merger pleases me and encourage us to continue.”
“We are delighted that so many members view a merger with DMK as the best option to realize our objectives in both the short and the long term: A competitive, stable milk price, continuity and a purchase guarantee,” says Arjan Schimmel, CEO of DOC Kaas.
DMK is now already by far the largest dairy company in Germany, where around 9,400 suppliers deliver 6.7 million tons of milk each year, which is processed at 28 locations. At present 7,158 people are employed. With €5.3 billion in sales DMK is among Europe’s giants in the dairy industry.
DOC Kaas processes annually about 1 million tons of raw milk and produces approximately 125,000 tons of cheese to a worldwide market. The company has 280 employees and has a turnover of €625 million.
DOC Kaas is a specialist in naturally matured cheese, while the DMK in turn produces foil-ripened cheese.
