Swiss eat more cheese at home
SWITZERLAND – Last year Swiss households ate 3% more cheese than in 2003.
Industrial sales also increased to create a new per capita consumption record estimated at more than 20 kilograms – a figure which is only higher in Germany, Greece, France and Italy.
Extra sales to households were 2,500 tonnes in 2004, with the favourite products including slicing cheeses, with sales up 4.1% on the year, and cream cheeses which rose 3.3%.
Total cheese sales within Switzerland were put at 151,000 tonnes in 2004, with domestic cheeses increasing market share to 78.9%.
