Organic milk price rise to keep production alive
GERMANY – A leading organic milk processor has launched a campaign to secure an extra five euro cents per litre price rise for its suppliers.
The current price paid by the major dairies for organic milk ranges between 28 and 32 cents per litre.
The Uplaender Bauerbnmolkerei dairy in northern Hessia, which processes 14 million litres of organic milk annually, recognises that the present price barely covers the cost of production.
In a recent survey conducted by the company, it was found that the majority of its customers would pay the five cents extra if that money went straight to the farmer to help keep the production of organic milk alive. As a result, the company intends to implement the price rise before the end of the year.
