GERMANY – Merger talks between Milchwerke Regensberg and Molkerei Goldsteig, have been denied by a Regensberg spokesman.

The announcement came after renewed speculation that talks between the two cheesemakers, which broke off about a year ago, were about to be resumed.

The Goldsteig Group is the largest Mozzarella producer in Germany and almost doubled the amount of milk it processes during a series of mergers in the 1990s. It now takes delivery of over 570 million kilograms annually in seven plants, producing a wide variety of yogurts, desserts and cheeses.
