Bavaria’s organic milk processing specialist Andechser Molkerei Scheitz (75 m kg milk per year) has locked horns with a monastery, which is offering a cream cheese made by the monks and sold under the label “Andechser”. Even although the cheese is actually produced in an Abbey of the same name (the St Bonifaz Abbey of Munich and Andechs), Andechser Molkerei Scheitz claims the name belongs to it – and that the monks will have to find another label. The case is now before the Munich court and the judge has given monks and milkmen until 16 January to come up with a compromise.
