AUSTRALIA – Dairy processor Bonlac said this week that its Wynyard cheese factory in Tasmania has smashed last year’s record cheese production figure with two months of its financial year remaining.

The company said that strong milk production this year had helped beat the 22,000 tonne record. It expects the factory to produce 26,000 tonnes of cheese by the end of its financial year in June.

In a statement, Bonlac said that capacity at the plant had been increased in recent years to keep up with high domestic and international demand.

More than 50% of the plant’s production is exported, with the remainder marketed under the Table Cape, Bodalla and Bega brands.
