Sales rise a mixed blessing for Campina

Campina Melkunie has reported a 17.8% increase in sales for 2000, taking turnover up to r3.9 billion. This is largely due to consolidation of the emzett business in Germany.
However, a sharp rise in the prices of basic dairy products did not benefit Campina as its performance reflected growth in value-added products. German subsidiary Tuffi experienced a considerable loss due to the high purchase price of milk and high costs associated with its integration with emzett.
Improved financial results were seen in the cheese and butter group and at Campina International.
Campina claimed that the high degree of uncertainty associated with international markets made it impossible to predict results for 2001, but did it expect a restructuring of Tuffi Campina emzett to have a positive effect on its finances.
