Dairy exports are booming for Germany, according to trade results comparing the first halves of 1996 and 1997. Shipments to EU neighbours, which represent two-thirds of Germany’s dairy export trade, were up 50% in the first half of 1997 for butter, 40% for yogurt and 15% for cheese.
Outside the EU, this positive trend is also noticeable with exports of yogurt to Russia being one of the Germany’s biggest successes. In the whole of 1996, Germany shipped 100,000 tonnes of yogurt there, this total had already been overtaken within the first six months of 1997.
