Unilever receives further scolding for its ice cream selling practices

The UK Monopolies & Mergers Commission (MMC) has found Unilever ice cream subsidiary Birds Eye Wall’s guilty of uncompetitive activity on three counts.
The MMC’s findings are yet another blow to Unilever, which was censured earlier this year by the European Commission for its practice in Ireland of lending freezers to retailers on the basis of brand exclusivity (see DII 63(4)5). This time, Unilever was found to have deliberately restricted competition at wholesale level and reduced competition and choice at retail level.
