Russian ice cream defies crisis
European dairies are monitoring developments in the crisis-hit Russian food industry after it emerged that the country’s market for ice cream is experiencing rapid growth.
Annual consumption in 1998 was 2.1 kg per head, and while this is way below the USA average of nearly 12kg, it represents an 8% increase on the previous year.
Better still, the Russian association of ice cream suppliers expects national per capita consumption to at least double in the longer term.
