The UK’s Society of Dairy Technology has named Chris Hay, who is technical sales manager at IFF, as its incoming president, at its annual meeting. He succeeded Michael Pinches, who as he commented, was the 67th president since the Society’s founding in 1943. “It remains an important vehicle for the dissemination of information and knowledge for the dairy industry. We remain committed to delivering value to our members,” he noted. There was also an app launched at the annual meeting, held 5 November at Campden BRI.
Paul Rowe has joined SDT as junior vice president. The editor of the International Journal of Dairy Technology, Dr Michael Mullen, is scheduled to retire by March 2027, and he was thanked at this meeting for his work on the journal. The journal will be celebrating its 80th anniversary next year as well. A new technical book, “Dairy Process Hygiene for the Professional,” is also being released, edited by Nick Edwards.
Moving further into the 21st century, the Society has launched a podcast, (available on Spotify, open.spotify.com/episode/5AlIDckHLGuCmgjfnlkOmG), where executive director Dr Millie Preece interviewed both the immediate past and new president for its first edition. Pinches discussed all the features of the Society, including regional meetings and activities, plus the idea for cheese making knowledge courses through SDT.
