CAB launch label campaign
Hamburg Citizens Advice Bureau has launched a campaign against the marketing methods used by north German supermarkets.
The bureau is unhappy that stores fail to differentiate on labels between extended shelf life (ESL) milk and conventional pasteurised milk.
The term frischmilk (fresh milk) is being used on labels for both the high temperature treated ESL and pasteurised milks.
A number of supermarkets are also taking the pasteurised product off the shelves, after claiming that customers prefer the longer keeping ESL.
Some label changes have already been agreed with the description
