US-based dairy Naturally Iowa is looking to export several of its organic dairy products to Vietnam after entering an agreement with Meiwah International.

“There has been a double-digit growth in demand for high quality products in Vietnam, including ice cream and yogurt,” says William Horner, Naturally Iowa’s chief executive. Initial plans are for the drinkable yogurt and other dairy products to be sold to restaurants and hotels in Vietnam with additional sources, such as grocery stores, coming along later. Vietnam is seeking more exports, especially dairy, which is being consumed there in larger numbers.
The Vietnamese also are interested in the containers the milk and yogurt come in, Horner says. “The Vietnamese government is worried about the havoc plastic is having on their environment.” Naturally Iowa manufactures the milk and yogurt containers at its plant. The biodegradable bottles made from polylactic acid, or PLA, a corn-based material engineered by Natureworks, a subsidiary of Cargill.
