Industry body Dairy UK has welcomed the continuation of the free milk provision for nursery milk by the Department of Health. Commenting on the launch of the UK DOH’s Consultation on Nursery Milk provision, Dairy UK Director General Jim Begg says: “Dairy companies have for generations provided a valuable service in providing milk for nursery schoolchildren and the desire to see children consuming a nutritious drink has been supported by parents and governments. We are pleased, therefore, that the government has confirmed that every eligible child will continue to receive their free nursery milk entitlement, whilst reviewing the mechanics of the scheme.

“It is essential, however, to ensure the system is working properly and the UK dairy industry welcomes the launch of the Department of Health’s Consultation, which we hope will underline the benefit to children of receiving school milk.“We are meeting with the Department of Health to talk through the proposals and their implications.”
