Korean cheese imports grow
Popular western food among young South Koreans is driving a demand for cheese.
According to a new report from the US Foreign Agricultural Service, imports to the country show strong growth, which is expected to continue.
Part of the reason for the high import figures is that South Korea only has two sources of local cheese production. The numbers for 2006 are expected to reveal an increase of 18% to 52,000 metric tons.
Local cheese production from local raw milk is constrained by the lack of manufacturing facilities and limited domestic milk production.
