The Leche Celta dairy in Spain, part of the Lactogal Group, is celebrating 25 years in the business. ‘Leche Celta te ayuda a crecer’ (‘Leche Celta helps you grow’) is the anniversary slogan.

It was founded in 1989, and within just a few years the company had moved into a strong position in Spain’s dairy sector. Today the ‘Celta’ brand is the number four in the Spanish dairy market. Leche Celta is also a manufacturer and filler of private label products that are sold all over the Iberian Peninsula.

José Caeiro Passinhas, president of the executive committee at Leche Celta, notes, “In our Spanish factories in A Coruña, Cantabria and Avila, we process around 400 million litres of milk each year. Our mission is to offer premium dairy products that are tailored to the needs of consumers. For us, this includes not only providing top-quality products, but also offering packaging solutions that go perfectly with the consumer¹s lifestyle.” Leche Celta packages around 75% of its annual milk production in aseptic carton packs from SIG Combibloc, using 12 filling machines. Its product range, which mainly includes various types of premium UHT milk, fruit and milk mix drinks and cream, is popular with Spanish and Portuguese consumers. Victor Cordoba, head of cluster Europe South at SIG Combibloc, says, “Leche Celta’s filling machines cover the full spectrum of possible package sizes from small format to family size, right up to the two-litre large-format carton pack. Leche Celta was the first dairy in Spain to bring out the large-format 1,500 and 2,000 ml carton sizes, and even today the company is a pioneer in the two-litre sector.”

The Lactogal Group, of which Leche Celta is now a part, processes around 1,500 million litres of milk annually, making it the leader on the Iberian Peninsula.
