The milk powder plant at Danish giant Arla’s dairy in Pronsfeld, Germany has now restarted operations. The 42-meter-high tower, which had cost around €65 million, started up in November last year, but just after Christmas there was an explosion and a fire in the new tower. Due to serious damage it had to be temporarily shut down.

After extensive investigations the experts came to the conclusion that a fire broke out in a filter air intake system of the plant and that must have been the cause of the explosions. Due to the high degree of destruction of the air supply system, the determination of the exact cause turned out to be extremely difficult.

The dairy in Pronsfeld is by far the biggest in Arla with a total intake of milk exceeding 1.3 billion kilos per year.
