Fonterra, Arlan, eye Polish prospects

Two global dairy firms, Fonterra and Arla, are said to be looking at ways of intensifying their processing activities in Poland.

Scandinavian firm Arla Foods has been showing interest in the Polish dairy sector, while New Zealand’s Fonterra is considering a joint venture with Polish dairy Polindus.
Skimmed milk powder and cheese are the two commodities under consideration, according to a report by the US-based Babcock Institute at the University of Wisconsin. Hard cheese makes up around a quarter of all Polish dairy exports and fetches a combined
