Arla Foods shuts Sheffield Park

Arla Foods is shutting Sheffield Park dairy, near Uckfield, in east Sussex with the loss of around 250 jobs.

The closure is said to be as a result of last year’s sale to Dairy Crest of Arla’s Express Foodservice. However, the distribution facility at the site will still be operational though reduced, with around 80 jobs remaining there.
Norman Baker, Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes, asked Arla whether the plant could be sold as a going concern to protect jobs, but said the management did not seem very hopeful.
