Scottish dairy brand rolls out

The Scottish dairy industry is primed for international expansion, following the European launch of a new brand to promote the best of Scottish value added dairy products to world markets. The Scottish dairy marque, unveiled at Anuga, has been developed to raise the profile of Scottish dairy produce and take advantage of the increasing international demand for products with Scottish provenance.

Currently, 11 processors from across Scotland have signed up to use the Scottish dairy brand logo, with 18 brands supplying 40 different products across three ranges; heritage, artisan and organic, all of which are made using 100% Scottish milk.

The logo will be added to products such as cheese and butter and, in addition to sign posting shoppers to Scottish produce, it will also help retailers and overseas buyers boost the profile of Scottish dairy produce.

Richard Lochead, food secretary, says, “Scotland has a wonderful reputation overseas as being a land of food and drink. Our brand is recognised internationally, the country associated with quality food and drink. The Scottish dairy sector can benefit from that brand recognition which is why I am delighted to lend my supoor to this excellent industry led initiative which puts the spotlight firmly on our fantastic dairy produce for retailers and buyers from around the globe.

“People across the world enjoy premium Scottish produce such as Scotch beef, salmon and shellfish – now I want them to savour delicious Scottish dairy including cheese and butter. This new brand will allow buyers and consumers internationally to easily spot and purchase Scottish produce.”
