China to introduce milk ID system
CHINA – China’s milk industry is facing a major shake-up, following reports that the Dairy Association of China (DAC) is to introduce a fresh milk identification system in the country’s major cities.
Dou Ming, a senior DAC expert, told China Business Weekly that the ID system is likely to be introduced in cities like Beijing or Shanghai within the year, spreading nationwide after that.
He added that the system would offer fresh-milk producers the chance to sell their products at a better price. However, the DAC has apparently already felt resistance to the scheme, both from milk producers and government departments.
