UK – This week is school milk week in the UK.

The campaign, which is partly funded by the EU, aims to show how easy school milk schemes are to run and to raise awareness of the EU subsidy that allows children aged between five and 11 to receive up to 250ml of subsidised milk at school every day.

The theme of this year’s campaign is to highlight the importance of milk as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Last year’s campaign resulted in more than 70 schools signing up for the school milk scheme.
Also in UK schools this week, a new advice guide for teachers on how to set up healthy vending machines selling milk drinks, water and juices has been has been launched by the Food Standards Agency, The Health Education Trust and The Dairy Council.

Called Vending Healthy Drinks, the 32page guide is based on the results of an 18 month pilot study that looked at the success of 12 healthy drinks machines in secondary schools.
