Berglandmilch laps up McDonalds milk deal
AUSTRIA – Dairy co-operative Berglandmilch has won an exclusive contract with fast food chain McDonald’s to supply ice cream and milkshakes throughout Central Europe.
Until now Berglandmilch, which processes around 920,000 tonnes of milk per year, has supplied McDonald’s in Austria, Italy and Greece from its one German and five Austrian dairy plants.
The new deal adds Hungary and Slovenia to the growing list.
Even without the two new countries, the contract covers 10 million litres of milk per year. The extension of its supply means the Berglandmilch group now has one of the most well founded and secure dairy income sources in Europe.
Berglandmilch, which also specialises in producing traditional Austrian cheeses, says that very high quality standards are the main reasons for the medium sized player securing one of the most sought-after contracts in Europe.
