Beer ice cream hits freezers
UK – Newcastle Brown Ale, a popular beer from the north-east of England, is being used as an ingredient for a limited edition ice cream.
Local company Doddington Dairy has teamed up with Edinburgh-based brewer Scottish Courage to produce the dessert, which uses syrup from the Brown Ale to add flavour.
The producers even tried to help swing Newcastle’s bid for European City of Culture 2008 by giving judges samples, but with only 1% alcohol after the production process it was obviously not enough to sway them – the award went to Liverpool.
