Sector squeeze attracts bargain hunters
UK – Over 200 buyers flocked to an auction of cheese, yogurt and pizza topping production equipment in the UK, with many arriving from overseas.
Participants included Russians, Spaniards and Poles, who had all arrived at food equipment auctioneers Clarke-Fussells following the liquidation of H& H Chilled in Stourbridge, West Midlands.
The 350 lots attracted a mix of producers, packers and dealers. Clarke-Fussells director Mark Flynn said, “Much of the equipment was relatively new, and while many items realised close to their full value, there were also plenty of bargains to be had.
He added, “This auction followed another recent sale of yogurt production equipment in Wiltshire, and demonstrates how the yogurt sector is increasingly becoming concentrated into the hands of a few very large producers.”
