UK – Britain’s best-known birdwatcher, Bill Oddie, has been in Scotland recently to help publicise the Wildcare Dairy Group’s efforts to improve Britain’s wildlife habitats.

He helped erect the first batch of 450 nest boxes that are being positioned on 47 farms in south-west Scotland at Kiloch farm, Ayrshire.

The scheme is part of White & Wild milk producers’ commitments to the environment. The milk, dubbed ‘the milk of human kindness’, is sold at a higher price than most other brands, and a portion of the proceeds goes to improving wildlife habitats.

It is hoped that the project will help secure a future for more than 400 native species currently listed as under threat.

Oddie said of the scheme: “The fight back starts here. This is just the beginning. White & Wild milk provides a practical and cost effective way for people to help avoid a catastrophe in the countryside. With the public’s help over the next decade we can change the face of the British countryside.” For more information on White & Wild, visit www.whiteandwild.co.uk.
