New squirty straw
AUSTRALIA – A straw which squirts liquid into the drinker’s mouth has been launched by Tetra Pak’s Carton Ambient subsidiary.
Called the Sensory Straw, it is aimed at children and teenagers and incorporates a flat top with four small holes instead of one large one so the drink enters the mouth in four directions at the same time.
The straw is designed for use on Tetra Pak’s existing Tetra Brik Aseptic cartons at a limited cost and without any technical modification to existing straw applicators.
Following positive market testing, the straw is set to be launched in Australia on packages of flavoured milk produced by Italian dairy multinational Parmalat. The launch is timed to coincide with the beginning of the Australian school year.
If successful the sensory straw could be making its way into school lunch boxes in Europe.
