Dairy buy for Ekosem in St Petersburg

Ekosem-Agrar, the German holding company for the largest Russian milk producer EkoNiva Group, has taken a step towards getting into markets around St. Petersburg with the acquisition of OAO Trud Farm, which manages an area of 3,200 hectares with 1,520 cows, including 750 dairy cows.

By 2022 two new, modern dairy farms are to be built in the region in addition to the acquisition of further farms and agricultural land.

The medium-term goal is to produce and process around 70 million litres of milk a year for the greater St. Petersburg region, the company says.

Until then, the region will initially be supplied with EkoNiva branded products from the group’s existing dairies in the rest of Russia.

“With St. Petersburg we have opened our ninth region in Russia. This region is particularly attractive for the sale of our dairy products due to their economic importance for Russia and their increased purchasing power,” said Stefan Dürr, chief executive officer of Ekosem-Agrar.
