Glanbia drops plans for half litre milk pack
Glanbia, following criticism of its plans to replace its one pint milk carton with a half litre pack, has made a U-turn.
Ireland’s largest milk processor planned to introduce the new carton but charge the same price for 60ml less milk. Glanbia claimed the carton was the only imperial package in its portfolio and its removal would make it consistent with European standards.
It maintained that the price remained unchanged due to conversion costs. Consumers, however, claimed that it was an opportunity to impose hidden price increases before the changeover to the European currency on 1 January 2002. Glanbia denied this.
