Cholesterol-lowering milk hits the market
UK – Lancashire Dairies has launched a semi-skimmed milk into the UK and Irish markets which is claimed to lower blood cholesterol.
Benecol milk was developed in conjunction with McNeil Consumer Nutritionals and contains the patented cholesterol-lowering ingredient plant stanol ester, which is derived from naturally occurring plant substances.
Benecol milk is available in 750ml cartons and contains 126 calories per serving and a fat content of 4.8g per 250ml.
Commenting on the development, Lancashire Dairies sales and marketing director David Girdler said: “The new milk is an excellent addition to our growing portfolio. It tastes great and gives consumers an easy and natural way to manage their cholesterol levels.”
The milk is on sale at 99p (1.6 euro) and complements McNeil’s existing Benecol range, which includes a spread, yogurts and snack bars.
