Bergader dairy wins Corporate Health Award 2020

Germany’s most socially sustainable employer has been honoured; Bergader dairy achieved first place in the ‘Consumer Goods – Medium-Sized Enterprises’ sector at the Corporate Health Award 2020 for its performance in the area of corporate health management of its 670 employees.

The Corporate Health Award, initiated by the international market research and consulting company EUPD and the Handelsblatt Media Group in 2009, is given annually to employers who are demonstrably committed to the health of their own employees and who pursue a forward-looking, sustainable HR strategy. It is the most prestigious award in Germany for excellent health management. In 2020, over 350 employers from 15 industries were among the applicants.

The dairy health management at Bergader had small beginnings more than 80 years ago, when Maria Weixler, wife of the company founder Basil Weixler and grandmother of Bergader boss Beatrice Kress, cooked a warm meal for the entire workforce.

Today Bergader employees benefit from a canteen with regional, fresh dishes from an extensive package of measures to promote health. A therapist from a sports and rehabilitation center is available to every employee as a health coach, who develops a training plan that is individually tailored to their personal situation and the requirements of their workplace.

Medical training equipment is used here, as is also used in top-class sport. The aim is to maintain and improve the health of every employee over the long term.

Bergader also offers flexible working time models and an in-house day-care centre.

Managing director Beatrice Kress is reportedly delighted with the special award: “It is a matter close to my heart to support our employees in maintaining their performance and physical health for as long as possible until they retire and, preferably, even beyond.

“Personally, I would be very happy if we could motivate other companies to imitate us here”.

Bergader has already received several awards for its health management. Most recently, in 2019, the family company received the coveted regional business award ‘Chiemgauer Panther’ in the ‘Company with a heart’ category.
