Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses introduces Blacksticks Blue Mega Burger Slices

Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses’ is riding the wave of this summer’s outdoor dining and BBQ boom with its new Blacksticks Blue ‘Mega Burger Slices’.

The Lancashire-based cheesemaker will launch its first-ever Blacksticks toppers in Waitrose and Spar stores nationally next month (April), ahead of the much-awaited, post-lockdown BBQ season.

The Mega Burger Slices deliver the unmistakably smooth, creamy texture of Blacksticks Blue with distinctive blue bite, complete with edible rind. Cut from a whole cheese, the thick slices are the antidote to ‘plastic’ burger cheese, says the company.

Containing four rounds per pack, the 80mm diameter, thick cut rounds melt perfectly on meat or vegetarian burgers for ultimate ooze factor, they’re also a great option for grilled or picnic sandwiches according to Butlers.

Due to ongoing social restrictions, BBQs are set to be a top trend this summer. The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) reported* 100 million BBQs between April and August last year, up 44% year-on-year with this trend set to continue in 2021.

A 76% increase in people choosing burgers and 142% surge in those adding cheese to their BBQ, inspired Butlers to meet the craving for elevated home-cooked meals. The midweek BBQ is also poised to explode, as people continue to work from home and appreciate the humble back garden.

Matthew Hall, fourth generation owner of Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, said, “As we come out of lockdown and socialise with friends and family again, dining in the fresh air has a whole new level of relevance and appeal.

“There’s a new wave of shoppers looking for something more than processed cheese – they want gourmet burgers that deliver those Instagram pictures while adding a quality cheese hit at home. So for us it was simple – combine our love of handmade, farmhouse cheese with our appetite for innovation to create something special with Blacksticks Blue.”

It has been a record 12 months for the Lancashire cheesemakers, with the business seeing continued growth through the Covid-19 pandemic following the launch of its Butlers Larder and online Letterbox Cheese store. It was also the first cheesemaker in the UK to bring a fully recyclable British cheeseboard to market following the development of its single polymer, polyethylene packaging at the end of 2020.

Blacksticks Blue Mega Burger Slices are available across the market for summer 2021. Retailers can contact Matthew Hall directly for more information at: [email protected].
