Traditionally cave aged cheddar debuts in Australia

Mayers Fine Food, in partnership with Somerdale International, an exporter of British cheese, is launching a new Westminster Cave Aged cheddar developed specifically for the Australian market.

The farmhouse cheddar is matured 200 feet underground in Wookey Hole Caves in the Somerset Mendip Hills, a few miles away from the village of Cheddar itself in the UK. The addition of the cheddar to the Westminster range will further enhance its position in Australia. Now sold in over 250 independent delis across the country, the Westminster range is available from in a 150g retail pre-pack format in cases of 10, with an RRP of A$6 (€3.90) per pack.

Containers of cheese are shipped on a regular basis to Sydney, Australia, which are then distributed through the Mayers supply chain to a broad range of Australian retail customers including mainstream retailers such as Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and Costco through to high end specialist delis.

The current Westminster range available in Australia includes Westminster mild and mature cheddars, along with a smoked cheddar and a rustic red type. In addition to the cave aged cheddars, the Westminster brand will also see the introduction later this year of a new Westminster Cheddar with Chilli and Lime.

In addition to the iconic Westminster range, Somerdale’s Australian cheese offer includes a range of premium branded cheeses including: Barber’s 1833 vintage reserve cheddar, aged for at least 24 months, Quicke’s traditional cheddar, and Il Truffelina, a premium cheese combining the texture of classic English cheddar with the flavour of black summer truffles.
