Castello introduces new cheese crisps and cheese snack bars

Known for its pioneering spirit and passion for discovery, instilled by its founder more than 125 years ago, the Arla Foods Castello brand has introduced new Castello Cheese Crisps and Castello Cheese Snack Bars, portable snack options that meet increasing consumer demand for variety in snacking.

While cheese is popularly consumed during mealtime, the brand sees significant opportunity for Havarti and Gouda to increase share of total snacking occasions with 53% of consumers saying they have been snacking on cheese more often. As the leading Havarti brand within specialty cheese, Castello saw a sales increase of more than 20% for Castello Havarti Cheese in the latest 52 weeks ending 9 October 2021, in comparison to year ago.Additionally, the brand is contributing to Gouda category growth with a 42% increase in Castello Gouda Cheese sales in the same time period.3

“Not only are consumers demanding portable real food snack options, they are also looking for variety in the category,” said Leah Sbriscia, Castello brand manager. “We’re thrilled to be able to meet that demand by taking traditional recipes for our most popular cheeses – Castello Havarti Cheese and Castello Gouda Cheese – and expanding our product offerings.”

The brand’s new Havarti Cheese Crisps and Gouda Cheese Crisps (MSRP: $4.99 per bag) are made with 100% real cheese and feature the distinct flavours of each variety in a savory, crunchy texture. The snack’s innovative baking process also results in a thicker, crunchier crisp in comparison to existing category offerings. Castello Havarti Cheese Snack Bars (MSRP: $0.89 per bar) feature the mild, creamy taste and buttery tang the Danish cheese variety is known for, while Castello Gouda Cheese Snack Bars (MSRP: $0.89 per bar) continue to boast a rich, creamy texture with a nutty flavour and a touch of sweetness.

“Castello is rooted in traditional cheesemaking methods dating back to 1893, and our new snacks adhere to that craftsmanship, bringing natural ingredients and premium taste to the category,” said Sbriscia. “We’re excited about our delicious new products and will continue to offer consumers a variety of ways to enjoy our cheeses.”
