Upgrades for BMI in Germany

German dairy Bayerische Milchindustrie (BMI) is converting its location in Zapfendorf into a very modern ingredients plant. The global food manufacturer is spending several million euros at the site, which has existed since 1965.

In the future, milk and whey derivatives will be produced in the new plant, which will be used primarily in products such as baby food and performance nutrition. Production is expected to start in late 2026.

During the entire planning process, sustainability has very much been in the foreground, the company says. The waste heat generated in the plant can be used, among other things, to heat the local swimming pool or future residential and commercial areas.

BMI has been reliant on transparent communication with all those involved with an information evening held for locals recently. Together with Mayor Michael Senger, BMI reported on the project and was available for questions and comments. The company has been in close contact with politicians and the responsible authorities since the beginning of the planning phase.

“It is important to us to continue the long-standing success story of BMI in Zapfendorf together with the region. That’s why we began a transparent dialogue at an early stage,” explains Thomas Obersojer, CEO of BMI.
